MultiArc 1070E

Construction system for arches

Care and troubleshooting directions

for 1070E and 1070M Inch and Metric models

For models for masonry arches from 27 to 67 inch (70 to 170 cm) in diameter.

This device is used for the construction of round and elliptical forms for arches. Segment arches can be built by using an optional attachment (not included in the standard package).

The Multiarc is not intended, and cannot be used, for on-site poured concrete arches!

This is a state-of-the-art, precision tool requiring careful transportation and storage. Read all safety and use directions before use.

Check the following items frequently:

1) Sliding assembly

If sliding assembly slips when clamped, please check the following:

a) Make sure the inside of the sliding assembly is clean, and that the center pole is     clean and grease-free. Remove any dirt or grease with soap and water.

b) Make sure that the clamping-ring inside the sliding assembly moves freely when     trigger is pressed. If after cleaning the clamping ring does not move freely, or does not make contact with the center pole, it may have to be replaced.

2) Clamping assembly

Check periodically that the lengths of the spring steel pins holding the U-clamp are of the same length on either side of each clamping assembly, and that the spring steel pins are not loose. If one side is longer, you can use a piece of wood to lightly tap on the longer side until both sides have the same length. Make sure you slide the retaining rings flush to the assembly to prevent further sliding of the spring steel pin. You can use a strong adhesive (like Loctite) to glue the retaining ring to the spring steel pin to prevent sliding. Check for easy locking of the U-clamp before use.

Pushing and or loosening of the spring steel pins is most likely a result of improper usage and storage of the Multiarc.

3) U-clamp

Repeated use may stretch the drillholes on either side of the U-clamp. If the these holes become more than 6/16" in diameter (9 mm), the U-clamp has to be replaced to guarantee sufficient clamping force and prevent sliding of elastic band.

4) Thumb screw at top of center pole

Elastic band must rotate freely when mounted at top of center pole. Do not overtighten thumb screw. Make sure the flat washer lies between the mating grip of the elastic band and the top of center pole to allow rotation.

5) Storage and transportation

For the protection of all parts of the MultiArc, always store and transport in the transport configuration with the elastic band detached, the center pole fully shortened and both arms brought towards the center pole and pinned to the hole labeled "T." The elastic band must be stored flat.

We recommend periodical checks for deformations of any of the straight elements. The curved beam can be checked for deformation by verifying that the distance between the center points of its hinge and the last of the labeled holes (67 in English models and 170 cm Metric models) is 33.94" (860 mm). Small deformations may be corrected in the field, larger deformations may require the Multiarc to be serviced or retired.

6) Damaged springs must to be replaced.

7) We recommend that the Multiarc undergoes periodical service checks by an experienced service technician.

8) For service related questions, always include the serial numbers on the vertical scale on center pole and in the middle of the elastic band.
